Schouwburg Plein

Schouwburgplein, designed by West 8 has a contemporary urban square design, with custom furniture, iconic crane-like lights that park users can operate, and a trademarked hardscape pattern is a reflection of the Port of Rotterdam.

Despite all Schouwburgplein lacks the connection with its surrounding spaces (Theater Rotterdam) and residents. Is becomes abandoned in the winters of Rotterdam.

The project aims to make the park a more engaging space for the locals. One of the important read for this project was 'Pattern Language' by Christopher Alexander.
